Boasting an area of 100 km², Eichendorf is the largest municipality in the Free State of Bavaria. “Euchendorf”, as it was called in Old German, can also fall back on a long history. The first official documented reference was by Pope Gregory VII in 1075. Time and again, the town has suffered greatly from various conflicts such as the Landshut War of Succession and the Thirty Years' War.
