The Gäuboden Volksfest with the Ostbayernschau / consumer exhibition annually from the middle of August is a combination of Volksfest and fair and unique in Germany.
The history of the Gäubodenvolksfest:
From a marriage and the beginning of the Oktoberfest
On 12 October 1810 the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig married the Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. On the occasion of the "Theresienwiese" in Munich, a large horse race was organized for the population - it was the birth of the "Oktoberfest".
The young Crown Prince was also present, and was given flowers by five couples, dressed as peasants of rural Bavarian lands; The Gäuboden and its capital, Straubing, were each represented by a pair of costumes and were therefore particularly distinguished. The Crown Prince and later King Ludwig I greeted this feast with "the utmost pleasure": "Folk festivals are especially delighted. They express the national character, which is inherited by children and child children. I also wish to receive children; And they must be good mages. "
East Bavaria is the largest consumer exhibition in the region.
