Lower Bavarian Museum of Archaeology Landau adIsar is built in a 1224 former Duke seat of the Wittelsbach dynasty, the Kastenhof, furnished and opened in 1995 as the eleventh branch of the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection. In 1997 it was awarded at the award ceremony of the European Museum Prize. It conveys the cultural history of the people of Lower Bavaria from the Paleolithic Age to the early Middle Ages. In addition to the permanent exhibition, it offers temporary exhibitions, experimental archeology as well as numerous additional events. A restaurant and a museum shop complement the wide range.
